Description:

The Abolition of the Slave Trade Act passed in 1807 made it illegal for Britain to participate in kidnapping, capturing, and transporting African people from their homeland. The slave trade reached all segments of 18th and 19th century society, a modern day comparison to it would be the IT or the oil industry.

The sites you see archived here attempt to capture what was online from June 2007 to June 2008. Other 2007 ephemera not in digital format form part of a related collection deposited at the newly established Black Cultural Archives in London.

Description:

On April 18, 1906 at 5:12am a massive earthquake shook San Francisco. The resulting destruction and fire left this great city in ruins. On this centennial, Internet Archive using Archive-It asked the community at large to archive websites commemorating this historic event. A total of 2,208,762 documents were archved from over 50 websites. The crawling took place between April 13 - 20 2006.
