Hurricane Irene was a Atlantic Hurricane that left extensive flood and wind damage along its path through the Caribbean, the United States East Coast and as far north as Atlantic Canada in 2011 between the dates August 21st - August 26th, 2011. Irene caused widespread destruction and atleast 54 deaths, the monetary losses to the Caribbean could be as high as US $3.1 billion and around 7 billion dollars in United States (early damage estimates).

The 2011 Virginia earthquake occurred on August 23, 2011, at 1:51 pm EDT (17:51 UTC) in the Piedmont region of the U.S. state of Virginia. The epicenter, in Louisa County, was 38 miles (61 km) northwest of Richmond and 5 miles (8.0 km) south-southwest of the town of Mineral. The earthquake, along with a magnitude-5.8 1944 quake on the New York-Ontario border, is the largest to have occurred in the U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains since an 1897 quake centered in Giles County in western Virginia[5][6] whose magnitude has been estimated as 5.8 or 5.9. These popular music genres originated from south Texas, with similarities to the Mexican norteño, but is also influenced by several American musical genres and in particular features elements of polka. The basic duo of accordion and bajo sexto (12-string bass guitar) has grown to include other instruments (drum kit, bass guitar, etc.) but these two instruments still characterize the sound of the ensemble.

The Latin American Government Documents Archive (LAGDA) seeks to preserve and facilitate access to a wide range of ministerial and presidential documents from 18 Latin American and Caribbean countries. The Archive contains copies of the Web sites of approximately 300 government ministries and presidencies. Capture of sites began on multiple dates in 2005 and 2006, and will continue with regularly scheduled captures.
Content in the Archive includes not only the full-text versions of official documents, but also original video and audio recordings of key regional leaders. Archive contents include thousands of annual and state of the nation
reports; plans and programs; and speeches by presidents and government ministers.
LAGDA is a joint project of the University of Texas Libraries, The Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, and the Latin American Network Information Center at The University of Texas at Austin.
