Advanced help for crawl scoping

International Mission Photography Archive, University of Southern California

Websites can be ~weird~. Through our partners’ efforts though, we’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks to “scoping” a site or collection of sites so that they are easier to crawl, capture, and archive. Thanks to all who attended our live “Advanced Scoping” webinar last month to catch up on best practices. Couldn’t make it? You can get up to speed any time with a recording: Advanced Scoping Training. And for regular advice on when and how to expand, limit, or otherwise modify your crawls to best archive different kinds of websites, don’t forget the crawl scoping advice and tutorials in the Archive-It User Guide.

Retiring Archive-It version 4.9

We plan to officially retire version 4.9 of the Archive-It web application in the first week of January, 2017. Retiring 4.9 will simplify our infrastructure and let us move forward with additional enhancements to Archive-It 5.x.

This will not change the regular work of web archiving for most partners, if you have been using the new 5.0 interface exclusively. If, however, you could use an introduction to Archive-It 5.0’s features and a walkthrough of how to use them, and you have missed our recent live training sessions, you can catch up with a video recording here: Training and tutorial videos > Introduction to Archive-It 5.0. And stay tuned for more focused video tutorials on these features!

State of the WARC

Charles Babbage Institute, University of Minnesota Libraries

We’ve completed our second annual survey of Archive-It partners’ preservation practices and priorities for web archives, the 2016 State of the WARC! Thanks to all who took a moment to participate. These responses help us to chart our development course for the coming year, so check out this summary of our findings and a few deeper dives into the data to get a preview of things to come.
