Phase 1 Formation and Orientation
September – December 2017
TRAINING
- Archive-It Application Training (online): A 45 minute walk through of the Archive-It tool.
- Module 1 Live online meeting 1 – October 5th, 10:00 am PT/1:00 pm ET: This training program includes an overview of digital preservation, web archiving concepts, and training in the web archiving tools and services used in the project.
- In-person cohort meeting November 3, 2017, San Francisco
ACTIVITIES
- Signed MOUs are due by October 5, 2017
- Archive-It accounts are created and cohort begins to build local history web archive collections.
- Participants get acquainted with each other and with the platform via in-person and online meetings and discussions utilizing online forums.
Phase 2 Training and Collection Building
January – May 2018
TRAINING
- Module 2 Live online meeting – Tuesday, 23 January 10amPT/1pmET: includes advanced training in web archiving practices and collection development and appraisal strategies.
- Module 3 Live online meeting -Tuesday, 10 April 2018, 10amPT/1pmET: includes training in patron engagement, public programming, and events, and community partnerships.
ACTIVITIES
- Participants continue to build collections documenting their local communities and begin to explore additional methods of content identification and selection.
- Participants hold local events to encourage patron engagement and local partnerships.
- Cohort members use funding to pursue additional professional development in digital curation that helps expand upon the project’s core activities.
- Participants begin to promote their work and the project through the dissemination of case studies, participation in conferences and writing blog posts, thus allowing for input and buy-in from the broader professional community.
Phase 3 Assessment and Refinement
June – December 2018
TRAINING
- In-person cohort meeting, November 2, 2018, Columbus Public Library – This meeting will build upon previously completed work and allow for additional program refinement based on lessons learned and feedback.
- Module 4 Live online meeting, Tuesday, 18 September, 2018 10amPT/1pmET: The content of training module four will be defined in response to feedback received during the second in-person meeting. This allows the program to address specific challenges or questions that have emerged during the course of the project or to cover topics and skills not in the original curriculum.
ACTIVITIES
- Community programs, involving patrons and other stakeholders in the selection of online materials for archiving.
- Collaboration through participation in online forums designed to facilitate open discussions and peer support.
- Attendance at regional and national meetings providing additional opportunities for network and consensus building, collaboration, and development.
Phase 4 Marketing and Dissemination
January – May 2019
TRAINING
- Module 5 Live online – Tuesday, 5 February 2019 10amPT/1pmET- includes the marketing and publicity of local history programs to foster public engagement and institutional support for programming.
- Module 6 Live online- Tuesday, 21 May 10amPT/1pmET, 2019 Cohort members will deliver brief project presentations and discuss future collecting and professional development opportunities.
ACTIVITIES
- Continued participation in conference presentations, to promote work to the professional community, and provide case studies of web archiving in public libraries.
- A survey of the cohort will be conducted to assess the program, provide recommendations for future project activities and identify potential partnerships.
