Description: This article discusses the issues surrounding the decision to establish a carbon market to offset carbon emissions through the Reducing Carbon Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) mechanism. Reporting on some of the discussions that took place at the World Conference of the People Against Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth that took place in Cochabamba, Bolivia in April 2010, the article presents the concerns of social activists and environmentalist concerning this initiative.
