The Tarrant County LGBTQ+ Collection was established in April 2022. It grew out of a collecting gap at UTA Libraries Special Collections related to queer history. Websites in this collection relate to physical items in the Tarrant County LGBTQ+ Collection (AR794).

The organization's name reflects the preferred attire of the members of the organization, which serves to identify it's members in the community as the Cowtown Leathermen. The Cowtown Leathermen closed their chapter in 2023.
