Description: Archived website of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences was formed as a result of a campus reorganization in the spring of 1972. It was designed to extend and support learning in traditional disciplines while creating conditions for the development of interdisciplinary approaches to solving behavioral and social problems. The University of Maryland at College Park was again reorganized in 1986 and its five divisions were split into fourteen colleges. The academic departments currently included within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences are African American Studies, Anthropology, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, Geographical Sciences, Government and Politics, Hearing and Speech Sciences, the Joint Program in Survey Methodology, Psychology, and Sociology. The College is also home to 32 departmental and 11 college-level research centers. The BSOS website includes information about its undergraduate and graduate programs, faculty, staff, alumni, academic programs, research, commitment to diversity, news, events, departments, and profiles.

Description: Archived website of The Graduate School at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Graduate School's mission is to provide for the education of students in the scholarly methods of intellectual inquiry and critical analysis; to train them in the discipline and skills necessary for beneficial research; and to foster in them a dedication to creative thought and the search for knowledge. In order to shape and participate in national policies and developments in graduate education, the Graduate School maintains close contact with other graduate schools and is a member of the Association of American Universities, the Association of Graduate Schools, and the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States. The Graduate School was formed during academic year 1918-1919 and was administered by the Graduate Council, which consisted of the president of the university, director of the experiment station, the dean and secretary of the school, and six members experienced in graduate school administration. The Graduate School has general jurisdiction over graduate work offered by various departments of the university. Its policies for establishment of standards and requirements for degrees rely upon precedents set forth by the Association of American Universities, an association of United States' graduate institutions of which the UMCP graduate school became a member in 1970. Description: Archived website of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. Established in 1949 as the Department of Journalism and Public Relations in the College of Business and Public Administration, the department changed its name in 1966 to Department of Journalism. In 1972, it became the College of Journalism, an independent college within the University of Maryland at College Park with its own board of visitors. In 2001, the college was renamed for Philip Merrill, publisher and owner of The Capital daily newspaper in Annapolis and Washingtonian magazine, in recognition of his $10 million gift to the College. The College produces the bi-monthly review American Journalism Review and operates the Capital News Service, a student-powered news organization.
