Description: Purpose, Powers and Duties: To improve the quality of life for older Virginians through the development of policies and programs and the provision of services which maximize the independence of older people. The Virginia Department of Aging was eliminated by the Virginia General Assembly effective 1 July 2012. The agency's responsibilities were transferred to a new state agency, Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services.
