Description: The official site of the Villa Grimaldi Parque por la Paz. It was the site of internment and torture during General Pinochet's Dirty War. It has been reconstructed as a site of memory and remembrance La Corporación Parque por la Paz Villa Grimaldi fue constituida el 13 de julio de 1996, como una entidad privada sin fines de lucro y que, por Decreto Exento N° 170 del 17 de marzo de 2005 del Ministerio de Bienes Nacionales, es la encargada de gestionar y poner en valor el sitio patrimonial Parque por la Paz Villa Grimaldi, ex “Cuartel Terranova”. Su quehacer se orienta fundamentalmente a la promoción y defensa de los Derechos Humanos al interior de la sociedad chilena.

Description: Eastern State Penitentiary website is part of the Dark Tourism Collection that archives websites on the phenomenon called “dark tourism.” Our goal for this collection is to enable exploration of the motivations behind the creation of dark tourism sites, as well as reasons for visiting them. The initial foci of the Dark Tourism Collection is prison sites from the late 19th to 20th century.
