Description:

The Apopka Farmworkers Collection documents the health crisis resulting from area farmworkers' exposure to pesticides used in farming, and from exposure to environmental contaminants from nearby sites, around Lake Apopka in Central Florida. Farming in the area began in the 1940s and ended in 1998.

Description: Students took a tour with the Farmworkers Association and learned about the history and landscape of the Northern side of lake Apopka. They learned about the demographic make-up of the farmworker population in Central Florida, the harmful health effects of pesticides, difficult living conditions experienced by farmworkers, and the meaning of environmental racism.
