The Apopka Farmworkers Collection documents the health crisis resulting from area farmworkers' exposure to pesticides used in farming, and from exposure to environmental contaminants from nearby sites, around Lake Apopka in Central Florida. Farming in the area began in the 1940s and ended in 1998.

Description: Former farmworkers believe pesticide exposure has caused them and their children a variety of serious illnesses including lupus and chronic kidney disease. The University of Florida seeks to do a comprehensive study to investigate whether pesticide exposure has lead to the medical ailments of farmworkers who harvested vegetables on the farms of Apopka's shores for decades.
