Description: "Adapting urban water systems to climate change Description: ICLEI, UNESCO-IHE and IWA have authored, as part of the ‘SWITCH – Managing Water for the City of the Future’ project, a handbook on adapting urban water systems to climate change. The handbook aims to fill a gap in the adaptation field: while a lot of information is available about various adaptation topics, there is a lack of guidance for decision makers at the local level working on urban water who wish to proactively prepare for and adapt to climate change." -- from the website, 6/17/2016 This page gives the abstract for the paper, "Adapting urban water systems to climate change," and a link to a .pdf of the document.

Description: "A synthesis of literature results indicates that invasive, noxious weeds on the whole have a larger than expected growth increase to both recent and projected increases in atmospheric C02 relative to other plant species. There is also evidence that rising CO2 can, in fact, preferentially select for invasive, noxious species within plant communities. Furthermore, there is initial data suggesting that control of such weeds may be more difficult in the future. However, the small number of available experiments make such conclusions problematic, and emphasize the urgent need for additional studies to address the biological and economic uncertainties associated with CO2-induced changes in the ecology of invasive, noxious weeds." -- from the website, 1/24/2017

For environmental policies, benefits are determined by what individuals would be willing to pay for risk reductions or for other improvements from pollution prevention. Costs are determined by the dollar value of the resources directed to pollution reduction. If the total benefits exceed the total costs, then the policy is said to "pass a benefit-cost test.”" -- from the website, 1/26/2017
