The University Archives of the University of California, Irvine Libraries is preserving UCI's web presence in order to safeguard UCI's institutional memory, provide ongoing access to publicly available records of enduring historical and administrative value, and document UCI's research, academic, and cultural activities. These sites will be captured on a regularly scheduled basis.

UCI is one of 10 campuses in the University of California system. The campus opened for classes on October 4, 1965. 119 faculty and 1,589 students began their work on a campus that was still very actively under construction. In 2012, it has nearly 28,000 students, 1,100 faculty members and 9,000 staff.

Title: Department of European Languages and Studies (University of California, Irvine), Department of French and Italian (University of California, Irvine)

Description: In 2012 the Department of French and Italian joined together with the Department of German as well as with the Programs in Russian and European Studies to create the Department of European Languages and Studies. The French Program offers a "wide range of courses on French and Francophone literature, history, philosophy, and film" with an "interdisciplinary approach, stressing the relations among the aesthetic, the political, and the ethical."
