Archive-It Partner Since: Jan, 2014

Organization Type: Colleges & Universities

Organization URL: http://www.library.temple.edu/scrc

Description:

The Special Collections Research Center is the principal repository for and steward of the Libraries’ rare books, manuscripts, archives, and University records. We collect, preserve, and make accessible primary resources and rare or unique materials, to stimulate, enrich, and support research, teaching, learning, and administration at Temple University. SCRC makes these resources available to a broad constituency as part of the University's engagement with the larger community of scholars and independent researchers. Many of the SCRC’s collections documenting the Philadelphia region’s history are found in our Philadelphia Dance Collection, Philadelphia Jewish Archives, and Urban Archives. These Archive-It collections capture the on-line presence of some of the organizations whose archives are preserved by the SCRC. Complete information about the archives is available at http://www.library.temple.edu/scrc .

Open Data Philly is an open data aggregate and portal that includes over 300 datasets from the City of Philadelphia as well as various non-profit organizations and for-profit organizations in the Philadelphia area. This collection was created because Temple University was awarded a Knight Foundation News Challenge Grant to explore the ways libraries can support preservation and long-term access to open civic data through community information portals by using OpenDataPhilly.org, which is managed by multiple partners, as a testbed. The grant project focused on researching use cases, interviewing stakeholders, testing archiving and preservation prototypes, one of which is Archive-It. This Archive-It collection captures the Open Data Philly website as well as downloadable datasets in various formats.
