The Grand Rapids Public Library connects people to the transforming power of knowledge. Founded in 1871, the library has been collecting and preserving the history of our community from the beginning. The Grand Rapids History & Special Collections department offers extensive archival collections, local history resources, genealogy resources, rare books and the Furniture Design Collection.

Spearheaded and co-chaired by John Canepa, Dick DeVos and David Frey, Grand Action was a not-for-profit organization in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Comprised of more than 250 individuals from throughout the community, the organization was active from 1993 to 2017. Its primary objectives were “to identify downtown building and revitalization projects, to galvanize public opinion and support for these projects, and to design and implement funding strategies for each project, including securing enough private sector support to guarantee funding from existing public funds.” Major projects supported by Grand Action include Van Andel Arena, DeVos Place, Meijer Majestic Theatre, MSU Medical School and the Downtown Market.

Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce endorses Bill Schuette

On Monday, September 17, 2018, the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce announced that they were endorsing Bill Schuette and Lisa Posthumus Lyons for Governor and Lt. Governor in the 2018 Michigan gubernatorial election. The announcement generated concern among many community leaders and businesses, in connection with Schuette's record on LGBTQ rights and protections.

Torch Club Grand Rapids

The Grand Rapids Torch Club was founded in 1928 and was in existence until 2015. It was the 23rd club founded as part of the International Association of Torch Clubs. The purpose of the Torch Club is to provide a forum where people from a variety of professions can meet, enjoy good fellowship in a relaxed setting, inform each other, and expand each other's horizons. The Grand Rapids Torch Club website includes information about the organization and listings of programs from 2005-2015. The paper records of the club are held in the archive of the Grand Rapids Public Library.

West Mich Music Hysterical Society

A website devoted to documenting the local music scene in Grand Rapids, Michigan, both past and present. From the website's mission statement: This website documents the present scene as well as the history of West Michigan musical culture. A core part of the website contains lists of musicians and bands. Other sections concentrate on places that musicians have played and their recordings, as well as information about local disc jockeys and radio stations, and so much more.
