Description:

26 June 2018 saw the launch of ''SLĀV'' as a part of the 2018 season of the Montreal International Jazz Festival. ''SLĀV'' was billed as a theatrical odyssey based on slave songs and directed by Robert Lepage and starring Betty Bonifassi, met with a growing controversy with protesters accusing it of cultural appropriation and cultural insensitivity. July 4th it was annouced that the show had been cancelled. This collection captures wesbites that follow the timeline of the show launch, reviews and then to the subsequent protest, and cacellation and the ensusing controversary. Special attention was paid to try and capture the variety of news coverage both locally and internationally and in both official languages.

The printemps érable, or maple spring, refers to the student strikes and wider student movement in 2012 that responded to the Liberal governments proposal to raise university tuition fees in Quebec. Translating the printemps érable was a volunteer based translation project, hosted on the platform tumblr, aimed at making the french language coverage of the Quebec student movement more accessible to anglophones.
