CBER, a department within the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, conducts research on national and state economic trends for UT Knoxville, state agencies, and public and private organizations.
A significant part of CBER's ongoing research effort is devoted to an exhaustive analysis of Tennessee's welfare program, Families First. Recent work explores the effects of new time limits on benefits and the extent to which those who leave the program eventually return to the rolls. Anyone new to the study of welfare policy in Tennessee should also consult the Case Characteristics Study and other summary reports. Check here for the latest research: Welfare Research by CBER
The inability of state and local governments to collect sales and use taxes on remote sales is one of the most critical budget issues facing policy makers across the nation. CBER researchers have undertaken numerous projects in the area of taxation on e-commerce and Internet usage. Interested readers should check here for the latest research: e-Commerce Research by CBER.
CBER also collects, analyzes, and disseminates data on the demography and economy of Tennessee.
