In January 2011, an Open Letter was sent to the governments of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela by Brazilian anthropologist Sydney Possuelo with the support of the Bolivia-based Forum on Environment and Development (FOBOMADE) and the Madidi Expedition, along with the signatures of 900 individuals.
