Description: The Sex Offender and Crimes against Minors Registry program is statutorily provided through Chapter 9, of Title 9.1 of the Code of Virginia. The registry, including the Public Notification Database, is based on the Virginia General Assembly's decision to facilitate access to publicly-available information about persons convicted of specified violent and sexual offenses. The Virginia State Police has not considered or assessed the specific risk of re-offense with regard to any individual prior to his or her inclusion within this registry, and has made no determination that any individual included in the registry is currently dangerous. The main purpose of providing this data on the internet is to make the information more easily available and accessible, not to warn citizens about any specific individual. Adult individuals found within the registry are included solely by virtue of their conviction record and applicable state law. Offenses which require registration can be found at Statutes General Comments regarding this website can be submitted at the following location: Comments Information regarding a particular offender can be submitted through the Tips icon located on each offender’s webpage.

Description: Purpose, Powers and Duties: To maintain balanced military units that can provide protection of life and property for citizens of the Commonwealth and, when necessary, can render other aid as deemed appropriate by the Governor as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Commonwealth. The Virginia Defense Force is the Commonwealth's reserve force to be utilized by the Governor for missions in lieu of, or in support of, the Virginia Army National Guard, with units located throughout the state. The Virginia Defense Force augments and assists the Virginia Army National Guard and other state agencies as directed by the Adjutant General of Virginia. As a state force, it cannot be activated for federal duty.

Description: The Virginia Parole Board was established by law in 1942. It is composed of five members appointed by the Governor to serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The General Assembly has given the Parole Board authority to grant parole, to deny parole, to detain parole violators, and to revoke parole. Virginia Code Section 53.1-136 empowers the Board to make the following decisions for persons who committed their crime prior to January 1, 1995: to conditionally release offenders who are parole eligible, and found suitable for release to revoke parole and post release supervision of those under supervision found to be in violation of the terms of their release, and to investigate, prepare reports and advise the Governor, when requested, on Executive Clemencies. Virginia Code Section 53.1-40.01 also makes the Parole Board responsible to act on geriatric requests for conditional release. Following the Board's decision to grant an offender parole, the offender must agree to abide by specific conditions in return for the opportunity to serve the remainder of his or her sentence under supervision in the community. This creates a contractual agreement between the Parole Board and the offender. Parole supervision is carried out for the Virginia Parole Board by the probation and parole officers of the Virginia Department of Corrections.
