Description: The web portal, located at www.governor.virginia.gov/ITT, offers a one-stop resource for students with questions about how to proceed in the wake of the ITT closure. The Governor has directed the Virginia State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) to leverage every available state resource to assist these students, including the many veterans and active-duty servicemen and women who were enrolled at ITT. On 14 September 2016, Governor Terry McAuliffe launched a new online portal offering students impacted by the recent closure of ITT Technical Institution key information about steps they can take to continue their education at another institution or seek student loan forgiveness. The closure shuttered five campuses in the Commonwealth, including locations in Salem, Chantilly, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Richmond. Earlier this month, ITT Tech ceased operations nationwide.

Virginia Velocity is for the next stage; for entrepreneurs looking for a boost to their companies and a new level of growth. Virginia Velocity will provide $850,000 in prizes for winners, and at least four winners will be chosen. Description: The Secretariat also provides leadership of the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund (AFID), which is administered by VDACS, as well as the Governor’s agricultural export initiative, which seeks to increase exports of Virginia’s agricultural and forest product exports into the global marketplace and make the Commonwealth the East Coast capital of agricultural exports. The Secretariat oversees and provides policy guidance to three agencies – the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF), and the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC). The Secretariat of Agriculture and Forestry is the voice of two of Virginia’s largest industries. According to a 2013 economic impact study conducted by Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, agriculture and forestry have a combined economic impact of $70 billion annually. Agriculture generates more than $52 billion per annum, while forestry induces over $17 billion. The industries also provide more than 400,000 jobs in the Commonwealth. Description: In a communication to state agencies, Governor McAuliffe urged state agencies to utilize this website when applying for grants in order to foster collaboration amongst agencies. He also directed agencies to publish grants they offer on the Virginia Grants site so that Virginians can browse and apply for state grants more easily. “The new Virginia Grants website will help my administration serve taxpayers better by increasing transparency and accountability and offering residents a single hub for grant funding opportunities that may help them grow their businesses, improve their communities or make life better for their families,” said Governor McAuliffe. “Using technology to improve government customer service and seize more opportunities to fund important priorities is a great step forward in our efforts to build a new Virginia economy.” Today, Governor McAuliffe launched the first ever Virginia Grants website, a new public resource for anyone interested in state, federal, and private funding opportunities. The website will serve as a hub for taxpayers to search for grant opportunities, and have a better idea of how federal tax dollars are being spent, and which grants present opportunities for state and local governments as well as private businesses and organizations.

Description: The Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs serves an important two-fold purpose. First, it distinguishes and elevates issues and opportunities for our veterans (and for those active military persons soon entering veteran status) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a major priority of Governor McAuliffe’s. Of primary importance are the employment, health care and education needs of our veterans. With the Nation’s largest population of working-age and veterans under the age of 25, the Secretariat maintains a particular focus on the employment of our newest generation of veterans, who have the new and current skills needed here in the Commonwealth. The Secretariat also leads the Governor’s initiatives focused on relationship building with and support of our military and defense installations and the communities surrounding them.
