The State Archives and State Library of North Carolina, divisions within the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, operate with legislative mandates to preserve state government information and make it accessible to the citizens of North Carolina (G.S. 121-2, G.S. 125-11.5 - 11.13, G.S. 132-1b). The North Carolina State Government Web Site Archives and Access Program helps fulfill these mandates by providing archiving, preservation, and access services for websites and social media content produced and maintained by North Carolina state agencies.

Description: The North Carolina Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) initiative is a project which will allow the sharing of information between state and local criminal justice agencies. The CJIN Study Committee was created during the 1994 Special Crime Session of the North Carolina General Assembly. This committee was tasked to accomplish a primary directive to identify strategies for developing and implementing CJIN. A consulting firm was contracted to perform this study which was presented to the committee in April 1995. A CJIN study objective was developed which summarizes how this network should be developed. The study objective proposes "to identify alternatives for development of a statewide criminal justice information network that will enable a properly authorized user to readily access and effectively use information regardless of its location in national, state, and local databases."

Description: This is the web page for the Governor's Crime Commission. The Governor's Crime Commission has 44 members, including heads of statewide criminal justice and human service agencies; representatives from the courts, law enforcement, local government and the General Assembly; and private citizens. The staff for the Commission is responsible for researching issues under review by the Commission and using the results to make suggestions to the Governor. These recommendations may become part of the biennial legislative agenda that recommends changes or additions to North Carolina law. The Governor?s Crime Commission staff announces the availability of grant funds statewide every fall on this web site. Applicants have up to three months to complete the application. The appropriate committee, the Commission, and the Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety make decisions on the grant recipients and the awards are made in the spring.
