The time frame of the collection is 1900 to the late 1930s, but Gruen was interested mainly in private picture postcards from the early 1900s (the late Meiji period). Most of the cards show landscape views, scenes of the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, trades and occupations, and women and children. Additional topics in the collection are emperors, Westerners in Japan, plants, Japanese gardens outside Japan, decorated cards and ship cards. Cards with views of Yokohama and Tokyo predominate, but all except two of the 47 prefectures are represented.

Description: Remaking the Book was a symposium held at the University of Saskatchewan in 2005, which aimed to gather representatives from institutions in Canada and the United States who hold collections of medieval manuscripts compiled by Otto F. Ege. Discussions were held on how to create an “Otto Ege Medieval Manuscript Database” with the purpose of digitally reconstructing some of the books from which the pages were originally cut, including the valuable “Beauvais Missal” of northern France from the late 13th century. Included in this website is the virtual exhibit, Scattered Leaves, which displays thirty-four leaves from the collection.

Description: The virtual version of the “Scattered Leaves” exhibit which displayed thirty-four leaves from the Otto Ege Medieval Manuscript collection. The exhibit is designed to show the human labour and devotion that went into their preparation. The manuscripts on display reveal the process of their own creation (pinholes for line placement, erasures, guides for initial letter placement, for example), the different kinds of manuscripts in the collection and their intended purposes (bibles, breviaries, hymnals, missals, books of hours), the aesthetic qualities of many of the leaves, and the influence of the printing press on the manuscripts of the later 1400s and 1500s.

Description: Welcome to the A.W. Purdy Digital Archive hosted by the University of Saskatchewan Special Collection Library. In 1966 the University of Saskatchewan was fortunate enough to acquire a collection of Al Purdy's work through literary agent Laurie Hill. It comprises a significant part of his early work and includes: manuscripts; drafts; journal publications; monographs; articles and reviews of his work; volumes of other poets work; personal correspondence and poems from the likes of Margaret Atwood, Milton Acorn, Earle Birney and Irving Layton; photos; vinyl cuts; and audio recordings. The digital archive is a work-in-progress, an attempt to represent as much of this collection as possible in an online format available for all to access. Initially the site will exist as a simple repository of digitized objects divided into relevant format catagories: manuscripts, published work, correspondence, images, and audio. In addition, materials devoted to scholarship or analysis related to the collection will be included in the Analysis section. Finally, resources such as bibliographies, external links and print resources will be continually updated to provide the interested researcher with every opportunity to locate information related, in particular, to Purdy's early career.

Description: This virtual exhibit was designed to be a testament to the beauty of the province of Saskatchewan. Often thought of only in terms of flatness, cold, and great distances, Saskatchewan is in fact a treasure trove of subtle and stunning beauty. The cultural heritage of the province is equally well furnished with great artists, writers, and musicians. This exhibit attempts to show some of the great diversity of the province, through its flora, fauna, and physical geography; and to highlight a few of the many interpretations of Saskatchewan by its writers and artists.
