Description: One of the ways that many craft breweries have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic is by expanding their outdoor patios to allow more patrons to visit the brewery and sample beers in person. This has helped to mitigate the reduced capacity of indoor tasting rooms and provided an alternative for people (me included!) who are simply not comfortable sitting inside even with social distancing rules in place.

Representatives from across the clinical, acute and community agency care spectrum came together to determine gaps in communication, services, patient flow and resources required to support vulnerable populations and those who are/were unhoused during this unprecedented time. This webinar will include a round table discussion with the participants involved in this work.

Description: As the rain finally returns and the temperatures drop, we would like to celebrate the change in season by announcing that Creeker Volume 3 has been released. The variety of submissions over the series has meant that, like the Fairy Creek blockades themselves, each volume is many things. However, slight themes seem to have emerged: if Volume 1 was more celebratory and Volume 2 was more critical, Volume 3 is perhaps more reflective. The newest installment in the series includes history, poetry, collages, analysis, and reflection, plus a whole section dedicated to the inspiring forest defense currently happening in Atlanta.

Description: The people of the Comox Valley have always had a special knack for community organizing, but the COVID-19 crisis has taken us to the next level. There is a remarkable story unfolding here about our collective capacity to respond, adapt, and develop resiliency. The number of people who are hungry in our community is increasing every day. In response, Valley non-profit organizations—with support from compassionate local businesses—have been helping to ensure emergency food accessibility for our vulnerable residents by coordinating donations and proactive distribution.

Description: In March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck the world and changed our lives, everything shut down, including desperately needed services and community spaces that were regularly accessed by people who are unsheltered or struggling through poverty. Thanks to the support of BC Housing, the City of Courtenay, the Comox Valley Regional District, the Comox Valley Community Foundation, and countless others, CVTS and our partner, the Comox Valley Coalition To End Homelessness, were able to open the Connect Warming Centre and stay open, providing services (including a shower program) to the most vulnerable people in our community, 7 days a week.
