Description: This article discusses the continuing challenges facing the development of an electric car industry. While a new reliance on lithium could reduce the carbon emissions associated with gasoline use, lithium mining would bring its own set of problems, including air and water pollution and the possibility of toxic spills. The development of the electric car industry holds particular significance for South America, for the largest lithium reserves in the world are believed to be located in Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. Article in Spanish.
