Description: This article includes a response from the Popular Assembly for Water, an Argentine NGO, to the Mining Environmental Authority's acceptance of the Environmental Impact Study that was submitted by CORO Mining Corp., a Canadian mining company hoping to mine copper in Mendoza, Argentina. The Popular Assembly for Water has long opposed this mining megaproject, also known as the San Jorge mining megaproject, over concerns about the impact the project will have on the local community and its water supplies. Description: This report focuses on the proposed Project of the Paraguay-Paraná, a strategy to use the Paraguay and Parana Rivers for the transport of soy, iron, and fuel. The Intergovernmental Committee of the Waterway (CIH) - which includes the governments of Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil - hopes to lower the cost of transport of these goods through the use of waterway transportation.
