Description: The North Carolina Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC) Training Institute is a service designed to offer a supervised community-based alternative to incarceration or potential incarceration primarily to individuals who are alcohol or other drug abusers, but also to individuals who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled and who are involved in crimes of a non-violent nature. This service provides a liaison between the criminal justice system and alcohol and other drug treatment and educational services. It provides screening, identification, evaluation, referral and monitoring of alcohol or other drug abusers for the criminal justice system.
