Description: The Help Eliminate Auto Theft program educates citizens about theft of vehicles and their parts, a crime that costs Virginians millions of dollars each year. HEAT also trains and supports local law enforcement officers in efforts to prevent auto theft. The HEAT program is a cooperative effort of the Virginia Department of State Police, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and local law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth. The HEAT program was established in 1992 to educate citizens and law enforcement about theft of vehicles and vehicle parts. HEAT supports local and state law enforcement through various auto theft prevention efforts.

The registry, including the Public Notification Database, is based on the Virginia General Assembly's decision to facilitate access to publicly-available information about persons convicted of specified violent and sexual offenses. The Virginia State Police has not considered or assessed the specific risk of re-offense with regard to any individual prior to his or her inclusion within this registry, and has made no determination that any individual included in the registry is currently dangerous. The main purpose of providing this data on the internet is to make the information more easily available and accessible, not to warn citizens about any specific individual. Adult individuals found within the registry are included solely by virtue of their conviction record and applicable state law. Offenses which require registration can be found at Statutes General Comments regarding this website can be submitted at the following location: Comments Information regarding a particular offender can be submitted through the Tips icon located on each offender’s webpage.

Title: Northern Virginia/Washington, DC Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Archived Website

Description: To counter society’s rapid explosion of online child exploitation, pornography and predators, 52 local, state and federal agencies have partnered to create the NOVA-DC ICAC Task Force. The task force was established in November 2004 through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. With Virginia State Police serving as the coordinating agency, the grant provides for law enforcement training and equipment, and for conducting online investigations. The U. S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has granted the task force use of its Cyber Center Headquarters to house their full-time investigative initiative. The NOVA-DC ICAC Task Force serves as the coordinating agency for Cyber Tipline complaints received from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and referrals from other ICAC Task Forces to ensure these matters are thoroughly investigated. YOVASO focuses on three important strategies in reaching its mission: Engage youth at the school and community level through peer-to-peer traffic safety programs that are innovative, impactful, and hands-on. Educate youth on how to be safer and more responsible drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and bicyclists through peer-led campaigns, competitions, interactive programs, and social media messaging.
