Title: Virginia Memory

URL: https://www.virginiamemory.com/

Description: Virginia Memory is part of the online presence of the Library of Virginia, the state archives and reference library at the seat of government for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established in 1823, the Library maintains vast and varied collections of print materials, manuscripts, archival records, newspapers, photographs and ephemera, maps and atlases, rare books, and fine art that tell the history of the commonwealth and its people. Since the mid-1990s, the Library has digitized parts of the collections in an effort to make our materials more widely available to our online users. In 2006, the Library began reviewing its online presence and came to the conclusion that our traditional Web site could no longer deliver effectively our online content; promote our many services to educators, the public, and government employees; guide users through our collections; and accommodate new and exciting digital materials created by the archivists, librarians, educators, and historians on our staff. We realized that increasingly our users would visit us virtually, rather than physically, and their expectations for their online visits would be influenced by and change according to the Web technologies available on other sites they use every day for work, research, and entertainment. In 2007 and 2008, work began in earnest on the redesign of our agency site, as well as the creation of this offering, Virginia Memory. Virginia Memory has been designed as a gateway to the Library's digital collections, whether those items are indexed and delivered through traditional library systems, offered in online exhibitions, organized as resources for educators and students, or presented as research articles by staff who work with the collections on a daily basis.

Now, more than 20 years later, VHCF is one of the key elements of the Commonwealth’s strategy to buttress local primary care delivery systems and strengthen the health safety net. As a public/private partnership, VHCF combines the flexibility and nimble nature of the private sector with the resources and institutional means of the public sector. This has allowed us to produce a remarkable return on investment. Since the Foundation’s inception, VHCF has leveraged an average $11 in cash, health services and other in-kind contributions for each dollar expended. VHCF is proof that public/private partnerships can achieve great results. We are grateful to the Virginia General Assembly, the Governor and our esteemed partners. Working together, VHCF will continue to build and foster partnerships, solidify proven initiatives and launch new endeavors.

URL: https://www.vats.org/

Description: The Virginia Assistive Technology System (VATS) is a statewide program authorized and funded by the Assistive Technology Act of 2004, as amended and administered by the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services. VATS was established in 1990 with commitment to increasing awareness, accessibility and acquisition of assistive technology. The program is guided by an Advisory Council composed of individuals with disabilities, family members and representatives from Virginia's disability service agencies. One of VATS priorities’ is to establish assistive technology recycling programs across the State. VATS will work with local groups to plan and implement AT recycling specific to each community. In 2009, VATS applied for and received a grant from the Commonwealth Neurotrauma Initiative (CNI) Trust Fund Board. The three-year grant which is administered by VATS, created the Virginia Reuse Network (VRN). The mission of the VRN is to build the statewide reuse program’s capacity to better serve Virginians with spinal cord injuries (SCI) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI), including Veterans, and to implement a state-of-the-art sanitization and processing program for DME through the purchase of innovative DME cleaning systems. VRN partner programs will work collaboratively with network affiliates and VATS to address the durable medical equipment (DME) needs of persons with disabilities, primarily those who do not have the resources necessary to purchase needed equipment. Although the VRN will continue to serve qualifying individuals with disabilities, the VRN is interested in improving service delivery and tracking reuse services provided to individuals with SCI and TBI. VATS has three Assistive Technology Regional Sites that provide community contact points throughout Virginia for assistive technology information and resources across designated regions. These Regional Sites provide training, public awareness, and general technical assistance for consumers who can benefit from the use of assistive technology.

Description: The Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority (VCSFA), also known as ‘Virginia Space,' was created by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1995, with the legislated mission of promoting commercial space activity, economic development and aerospace research within the Commonwealth. Virginia Space began its lease at Wallops Island in 1997 and continually expanded the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) facilities to its present day level of capabilities, with two launch facilities (one mid-class and one small-class launch facility), as well as access to support infrastructure facilities through agreements with NASA, such as vehicle and payload processing integration facilities, support instrumentation and emergency facilities. MARS is licensed by the FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation for launches to orbital trajectories. MARS is only one of four spaceports in the U.S. that is currently licensed to launch to orbit, and is only one of two on the east coast. Building upon a 55-year legacy of experience gained during over 16,000 rockets launched from NASA Wallops Flight Facility, MARS provides a competitive alternative for responsive, cost effective, reliable, and mission capable Space Access.

The SCC’s powers, which range from issuing rules and regulations to setting rates charged by large investor-owned utilities, are delineated by the state constitution and state law. The SCC’s three commissioners are elected by the General Assembly for six-year terms. Working full-time, the commissioners direct the work of the SCC.

URL: https://www.odga.virginia.gov/

Description: Archived website of the Virginia Office of Data Governance and Analytics. The website includes a blog, newsletters, Commonwealth Data Trust, Enterprise Data Catalog, and the Virginia Open Data Portal. Data governance is exercising the appropriate authority and control over a data asset to ensure its integrity, quality, security, and availability to all qualified users. Proper governance offers many benefits including increased awareness of data holdings, improved organizational efficiency and productivity, more citizen-centered services, and better informed decision-making and evidence-based policymaking resulting in actionable intelligence. Governance increases the value of Commonwealth data assets by guiding and enabling its evolution from information to intelligence while promoting data discovery, exploration, integration, and sharing through the implementation of enterprise standards, policies, guidelines, and best practices. On January 7, 2020, Governor Northam signed Executive Order 48 that established a data governance framework making Virginia a leader in data-driven policy, evidence-based decision-making, and outcome-based performance management. The primary goal of the framework is to help the Commonwealth be more responsive and make better, evidence-based decisions grounded in the data it collects and manages. The data governance framework includes the Virginia Data Advisory Commission, Executive Data Board, Data Governance Council, and Data Stewards Group. During the 2021 General Assembly Special Session I, Senate Bill 1365 was passed that solidifed Virginia's data governance framework and through § 2.2-203.2:4. the Office of Data Governance and Analytics (ODGA) was created within the Office of the Secretary of Administration. The ODGA is directed by the Chief Data Officer of the Commonwealth and is charged with overseeing general data governance in the Commonwealth, as well as developing and managing the Commonwealth Data Trust.
