Description:
CBER, a department within the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, conducts research on national and state economic trends for UT Knoxville, state agencies, and public and private organizations.
A significant part of CBER's ongoing research effort is devoted to an exhaustive analysis of Tennessee's welfare program, Families First. Recent work explores the effects of new time limits on benefits and the extent to which those who leave the program eventually return to the rolls. Anyone new to the study of welfare policy in Tennessee should also consult the Case Characteristics Study and other summary reports. Check here for the latest research: Welfare Research by CBER
The inability of state and local governments to collect sales and use taxes on remote sales is one of the most critical budget issues facing policy makers across the nation. CBER researchers have undertaken numerous projects in the area of taxation on e-commerce and Internet usage. Interested readers should check here for the latest research: e-Commerce Research by CBER.
CBER also collects, analyzes, and disseminates data on the demography and economy of Tennessee.

Description:
The mission to provide continuing service to Tennessee municipalities in the form of technical assistance
is approached independently of academic research and teaching. MTAS consultants provide assistance in city halls throughout the state. MTAS also produces publications on a wide range of municipal topics, houses a technical reference library in Knoxville, and serves as a clearinghouse for information on a broad range of municipal issues. MTAS works in cooperation with the Tennessee Municipal League, an organization providing Tennessee cities with unified representation at the legislative level.

Description:
The University of Tennessee Extension is an off-campus division of the UT Institute of Agriculture. It is a statewide educational organization, funded by federal, state and local governments, that brings research-based information about agriculture, family and consumer sciences, and resource development to the people of Tennessee where they live and work.
Because Extension emphasizes helping people improve their livelihood where they are located, most Tennesseans have contact with UT Extensionthrough their local county Extension agents found in each of the 95 counties. Extension agents are supported by area and state faculty as well as by the educational and research resources and activities of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 74 land-grant universities, and 3,150 county units throughout the nation. The stated mission of the system is to help people improve their lives through an educational process that uses scientific knowledge to address issues and needs.
