Description: The Occupational Voice Conference brings together health officials, occupational voice users and their employers, occupational therapists, voice scientists, speech-language pathologists, medical doctors and other specialists in a format of lectures, panel discussions and informal conversations. Information sharing about Occupational Voice will benefit those who use their voices heavily in the workplace, those who train occupational voice users, those who treat occupational voice problems, those who design devices to assist occupational voice users, and those who scientifically study the occupational use of the voice. The International Conference on the Physiology and Acoustics of Singing includes singing, choral singing, distinctions between choral and solo singing, non-classical singing (other topics welcomed), and guest artist recital by: Cynthia Lawrence, soprano, and Mark Calkins, tenor.

Description: The Computational Biology Initiative (CBI) is a new interdisciplinary initiative at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) which was launched in January 2005. The overall goal of the initiative is to build infrastructure to significantly advance collaborative interdisciplinary bioscience research in San Antonio. Currently, healthcare and biotechnology industries lead the San Antonio economy with an estimated annual economic impact of over $13 billion and employ almost 100,000 citizens. The San Antonio area is developing a burgeoning biotechnology base. The objectives of this program are to foster the use of state-of-the-art core computational and analytic facilities, to enhance local expertise in San Antonio bioscience community, and to develop training opportunities.

Description: The Department of Philosophy and Classics brings together an award-winning faculty with diverse expertise across the fields of philosophy, the humanities and classical studies. It offers a major and minor in both Philosophy and Classics, and minors in Religious Studies and Humanities. The Philosophy program offers a wide range of courses in metaphysics, philosophy of religion, epistemology, ethics, logic, continental philosophy, analytical philosophy, Asian philosophy, philosophy of art, applied ethics, and likewise. The Classics program offer courses exploring numerous topics in Greek and Roman literature, culture, art, archaeology, classical mythology and ancient history, as well as introductory to advanced Latin and Greek. A rotating schedule of upper-division courses allows students to delve further into topics as diverse as ancient science and technology, epic poetry, urbanism and the archaeology of Pompeii, gender and sexuality and ritual sacrifice.

Description: The ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair is the State science fair offering two levels of competition: Juniors for students in grades 6 through 8, and seniors for students in 9th through 12th grades. Students enrolled in accredited home-school programs are also eligible. Over one thousand students from 6th through 12th grade compete from all across the state. To qualify for state competition students must win first, second, or third place in their category at an ISEF-sanctioned regional science fair.
