Description: The National Confederation of Communities Affected by Mining (CONACAMI), a Peruvian NGO established in 1992, was invited to speak at the Continental Summit of Indigenous Communication of Abya Yala, held in Cauca, Colombia in November 2010. This article looks at the history of CONACAMI and its struggle to raise awareness and identify alternatives for indigenous communities in responding to the activities of transnational corporations.
