Title: Carbon Competitiveness Incentive : interim reporting and annual forecasting

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/carbon-competitiveness-incentive-interim-reporting-and-annual-forecasting

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: The Carbon Competitiveness Incentive Regulation requires facilities exceeding one megatonne (Mt) of CO2e to report quarterly and provide annual forecasting of emissions, production, and credit usage. Quarterly reporting improves forecasting for emissions and revenue for budgeting purposes. It also allows for revision of rolling estimations to ensure the best available information is shared with government as soon as possible.

Title: Lower Athabasca Region : tailings management framework for the mineable Athabasca oil sands

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/9781460121740

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: This document provides direction to manage fluid tailings volumes during and after mine operation in order to manage and decrease liability and environmental risk resulting from the accumulation of fluid tailings on the landscape. The Framework builds on, but does not replace, existing provincial legislation and policy on tailings management and reclamation. It will not replace existing management systems. However, it will fill a management gap by providing a framework in which to monitor and manage long-term fluid tailings accumulation and reclamation on the landscape in the Lower Athabasca Region. Requirements under the framework will be administered primarily through the Oil Sands Conservation Act and the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.

Title: Quantification protocol for aerobic composting. Version 3.0

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/9781460141328

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: Reductions in greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved through optimally-operated aerobic composting. This quantification protocol sets the parameters for offset projects involving aerobic composting. For the purposes of this protocol, the baseline condition for eligible waste streams is set as anaerobic decomposition in a managed landfill in Alberta. The project condition is a demonstrated diversion of waste from the baseline case of landfilling to an eligible aerobic composting project.

Title: Quantification protocol for energy efficiency projects (version 2.0)

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/9781460137932

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: This document establishes the approved methodology for quantifying greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions from the implementation of energy efficiency activities in eligible areas. This quantification protocol can be used by emission offset project developers to quantify GHG emission reductions resulting from the implementation of energy conservation measures (ECMs) such as changes in process, management practices and/or facility improvements in new and retrofit projects.

Title: Quantification protocol for energy generation from the combustion of biomass waste (version 2.0)

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/9781460116968

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: This protocol provides requirements for quantifying emissions reductions (offset credits) from the combustion of biomass wastes to generate energy to displace fossil fuel sourced energy and, if applicable, from avoided GHG emissions from changes in disposal practices for the biomass wastes. Familiarity with and general understanding of the operation of biomass energy production is required.

Title: Quantification protocol for engine fuel management and vent gas capture (version 2.0)

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/9781460140048

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: This protocol quantifies greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions that result from two related activities: the improvement in the fuel efficiency of natural gas combustion engines, and the capture of gases (primarily methane) normally vented to the atmosphere. The quantification approaches for measuring GHG reductions for both components are based on measurement and monitoring and thus provide a high level of accuracy. The protocol is written for those familiar with the operation of natural gas combustion engines and control systems that manage the fuel consumption for these engines.

Title: Quantification protocol for landfill gas capture and combustion. Version 3.0

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/9781460141861

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: The scope of this protocol enables generation of emission offsets for: landfill gas capture and combustion, and/or combustion of landfill gas in an energy recovery system that displaces electricity. The installation of landfill gas (LFG) capture and combustion technology can convert methane to carbon dioxide resulting in a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Combustion with energy recovery can further reduce GHG emissions by displacing fossil fuel sourced energy used to generate electricity and heat.

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: The protocol is a quantification methodology to guide offset project developers on how to quantify emission reductions from projects that employ waste heat recovery projects.

Title: Technical guidance for the assessment of additionality

URL: https://open.alberta.ca/publications/technical-guidance-for-the-assessment-of-additionality

Collection: Government Information Collection

Description: The purpose of this document is to provide specific guidance to stakeholders when assessing the additionality of a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or sequestration of GHGs under the Alberta emission offset system. In order to demonstrate the additionality of the activities that are included or proposed to be included in the development or revision of an emission offset quantification protocol (“protocol”), the use of the tools contained in this technical guidance is a requirement for both the Alberta Climate Change Office (ACCO) and stakeholders. This document explains both the roles each of these parties play, and the process used for reviewing and assessing additionality during protocol development or revision.
