Description: Trevor Anderson is a self-taught, independent filmmaker based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His work has screened at many major international film festivals, including Sundance, Berlin, SXSW, Toronto, AFI Fest, Melbourne, Hot Docs, True/False, Slamdance, Outfest, Frameline, Los Angeles Film Festival, and many more. His films have been broadcast on CBC, Canal+ France, Bravo! and MTV. His newest film THE MAN THAT GOT AWAY (2012) premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) where it won the D.A.A.D. Short Film Prize. His previous films include THE HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE (2010) which was included in the Sundance Institute Art House Project where it was favourably reviewed by Roger Ebert, and which won a “Special Mention - Live Action Short Film” at the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest in Los Angeles; THE ISLAND (2009) which won Best Short Film at the Pink Apple Festival in Zürich, Switzerland; and ROCK POCKETS (2007) which won the inaugural Lindalee Tracey Award at Hot Docs in Toronto, presented to “an emerging Canadian filmmaker working with passion, humour, a strong sense of social justice and a personal point of view.” In January 2012, Anderson was selected to study under master filmmaker Werner Herzog at his Rogue Film School. Anderson is also a stage director and playwright: he and Bryce Kulak wrote the award-winning children’s musical NAMI NAMERSSON: THE VIKING WHO LIKED TO NAME THINGS. Anderson directed Edmonton’s original, live improvised soap opera DIE-NASTY for five years, co-directing the first two of those seasons with Stewart Lemoine. Aside from film and theatre, Anderson is co-founder of the Canadian rock’n’roll band THE WET SECRETS, whose song “Secret March” was listed in 2010 by Grant Lawrence of CBC Radio 3 as one of the “Best Songs of the Decade.”
