Description: Archived website of the Japan-America Student Conference (JASC). JASC is a non-profit educational and cultural exchange program for university students from the United States and Japan. The first Conference was held in 1934 in Tokyo and was initiated by a small group of Japanese university students concerned about the deterioration of relations between the United States and Japan. The Conference was held each year until the Second World War forced a postponement; it was revived in 1947 by American and Japanese students then living in Japan. After a second interruption beginning in the mid 1950s, the 16th JASC was held in 1964 in the United States and has alternated betweeen the U. S. and Japan every year since. Notable JASC alumni include Kiichi Miyazawa, the former Prime Minister of Japan (JASC 1939 and 1940) and Henry Kissinger, the former U. S. Secretary of State (JASC 1951). The JASC website includes information about its conferences, application, archives, and news.

Description: Archived website of the National Friends of Public Broadcasting (NFPB). Incorporated in 1970, NFPB is an autonomous and independent national organization for volunteers in public broadcasting. Its purposes are to help local volunteer groups organize, encourage community involvement and support for public television and to create an informed national constituency of lay people to represent concerned citizens, as well as the needs and problems of public television. It emphasizes the role and importance of the volunteer, and promotes cooperation between station management and volunteers as well as the exchange of ideas among local volunteer groups. Description: Archived website of the American Association of University Women of Maryland, 2015 to present. Founded in Boston in 1882 by sixty-five female college graduates, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the oldest and largest national organization of women in the United States. While advocacy for women and women's educational opportunities have remained basic elements of the AAUW program, international relations, cultural interests, and the quality of community life have become long-standing commitments as well. Currently, the AAUW offers college-educated women conferences and seminars on such subjects as the United Nations and the American family, fellowships for doctoral or postdoctoral work, grants for members to return to school after a five-year absence, a coalition of woman-power influencing local, state, and national legislation, and several publications. The Maryland State Division was officially launched on November 18, 1942. The current objectives of the Maryland Division of the AAUW are to assist in the formation of new branches in the state, to give and receive suggestions from other state branches, and provide backing for programs of individual Maryland chapters. The division also actively sponsors a variety of programs and projects in such areas as community, education, cultural interests, international relations, women's issues, and legislative concerns. The AAUW of Maryland website includes information about its blog, calendar, public policy, legislative alerts, newsletters, branches, tools for leaders, college and university partners, membership benefits, and Maryland Women of Distinction Fund.

Description: Archived website (2013 to present) of the Alliance for Women in Media, formerly American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT), a professional organization based in Lexington, Kentucky, that advocates for the advancement of women in the field of media. AWRT was formed in 1951 as a response to the National Association of Broadcasters's (NAB) decision to dissolve its women's division, the Association of Women Broadcasters. Its stated mission is to "advance the impact of women in the electronic media and allied fields by educating, advocating, and acting as a resource to our members and the industry." Along with serving as an advocate for women in the broadcasting and cable industries, AWRT also provides job information services, professional development programs and works to provide networking opportunities for its members. Since 1953, AWRT has staged a yearly national convention consisting of workshops, panel discussions and other events for its members. In 1960, AWRT formed its Educational Foundation, the first broadcasting organization to ever do so. The Foundation sponsors educational programs, charitable activities, scholarships, and its annual Gracie Allen Awards. The Alliance for Women in Media website includes information about its board of directors, trustees, staff, annual reports, newsletter, awards program, foundation, events, membership, and career center.

Description: Archived website of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), 2015 to present. The Maryland State Veterinary Medical Association held its first meeting in September, 1885, making it one of the oldest state veterinary associations. The MVMA has been involved in many activities relating to the veterinary profession, such as advocating relevant state and federal legislation and establishing standards within the field. Also involved in educational activities, the Association donated scholarship money and established one of the first programs to train veterinary nurses. During the first century of its existence over 1500 scientific papers were presented at MVMA meetings. The MVMA has also sponsored an active publishing program for journals, books, and newsletters. The MVMA website includes information about its membership, continuing education calendar, career resources, legislation, advocacy, communication, news, industry partners, and classifieds.

Description: Archived website of the American College Dance Association (ACDA), formerly the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA). The ACDFA was founded in 1973 to acknowledge and foster the role that colleges had been playing in the development of dance since the 1960s. Originally formed by thirteen charter member colleges and universities, the ACDFA now consists of over 300 member institutions. The ACDFA sponsors eleven regional conferences where colleges and university submit pieces to be adjudicated by nationally recognized dance professionals. The association also sponsors the National Dance Festival, which showcases works selected from all the regional conferences. Description: Archived Facebook profile of the Maryland State Grange. Oliver Hudson Kelley organized the first grange in Washington in 1868. The Colora Grange in Cecil County was Maryland's first, established in 1873. The grange movement grew quickly, and by 1874, 110 Granges existed all over Maryland. The organization rapidly evolved from an agricultural fraternity to a largely commercial venture. When business failure hit in 1875, membership dropped and many Granges were disbanded. Since that heyday, the Grange has remained active not only in agriculture and things affecting agriculture, but also as a special action group, taking a stand on such issues as war and peace, relief, and education. By 1960, 45 Granges were active in the state of Maryland.

Description: Archived website of the Pacifica Foundation, 2015 to present. Founded in 1946 by Lewis Hill, Eleanor McKinney and others as a noncommercial, educational, cultural radio in the San Francisco Bay area, the Pacifica Foundation has continued to flourish as a completely listener-supported radio network. The goal behind having listener support was to insure a grass-roots forum that would support diversity, freedom of speech, and promote programs according to what the listeners want, not what a corporate sponsor wants. Hill's strong beliefs in open communication and freedom of expression helped Pacifica set precedents concerning freedom of speech in broadcasting. Besides the pioneer station, KPFA (Berkeley), Pacifica radio consists of KPFK (Los Angeles), WBAI (New York), KPFT (Houston), and WPFW (Washington, D.C). Description: Archived website of the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB), a national radio advertising trade organization based in Irving, Texas, and New York, New York, whose history dates back to 1950. Originally known as the Broadcast Advertisers Bureau, the name was changed in 1955 to emphasize the organization's focus on radio (as opposed to television). The RAB's main function is to promote the medium of radio as an effective tool for national and local advertisers. To showcase radio's potential, the RAB began collecting examples of ads from all over the country. Many of these ads were used in workshops and presentations, and by the mid-1960s, the RAB had teamed with the Clio Awards in order to recognize the best of radio advertising each year. Ads collected for these purposes form what is now the Radio Advertising Bureau Collection in Mass Media and Culture at the University of Maryland Libraries. The RAB website includes information about its advocacy, sales tools, buying/planning resources, and training. The site also hosts members-only content such as creative resources.
