Description: "Together, we decided to take action and develop a regional network of like-minded people in the Hudson River Watershed. The Hudson Valley Textile Project is a community of farmers, dyers, millers, designers, makers, distributors, and retailers who have come together to share their knowledge and resources. We also share a concern about environmental and community impacts of the current mass market fashion trend to quickly-discarded, garments and home goods that are often poorly made, generally with synthetic fibers. To address these concerns and opportunities, the HV Textile Project is planning maker education and consumer outreach initiatives with an expected outcome of expanded investment in materials and finished goods including apparel, home furnishings and home decor items sourced and created in the Hudson River Watershed."--taken from website 2024.04.01

Description: "Fibershed develops regional and regenerative fiber systems on behalf of independent working producers, by expanding opportunities to implement carbon farming, forming catalytic foundations to rebuild regional manufacturing, and through connecting end-users to farms and ranches through public education. We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive."--taken from website 2024.04.01

Description: "The Acadiana Fibershed is dedicated to preserving the Acadian Brown Cotton heirloom seed and donates a portion of all cotton seed grown to the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, Cade Farm Seed Bank. We are revitalizing ABC cotton production with farmers who are committed to responsible growing, pursuing organic certification and adhering to the requirements of the State Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Boll Weevil Eradication Commission. The Acadiana Fibershed is preserving the past and creating the future of Southwest Louisiana through our efforts to develop a supply chain that will support a sustainable fashion industry within the French speaking parishes of Southwest Louisiana. The Acadiana Fibershed encompasses twenty two parishes in southwest Louisiana. The area’s name recognizes the region’s historic role as the area in which approximately 3,000 Acadian refugees sought sanctuary after being exiled from present day Nova Scotia in the early 18th century. The time honored traditions of family, self-sufficiency and economic reciprocity remain intact to this day along with the cultivation of Acadian Brown Cotton. The natural brown cotton was used by the early settlers to weave dowry textiles for Cajun brides referred to as L’amour de Maman — a mother’s labor of love." -- from the website, 2020.09.03
