Description: Archived website of the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation. The Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR) was created by the Virginia General Assembly's passage of legislation in 1999. The legislation was enacted in 2003 and the first facility was located in Dinwiddie County. The current VCBR facility opened in 2008 in Burkeville, Virginia. Operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), it provides a secure environment for the treatment of adults deemed to be Sexually Violent Predators. Description: The Institute was established in January 1968 as a short-term hospital to provide intensive treatment to individuals with acute mental health needs living in Northern Virginia. The hospital's physical plant encompasses a one-story brick structure with a basement area under approximately one-third of the building. All patient areas, as well as most of the clinical and administrative offices are located on the ground level, with a few additional staff offices and supply rooms located in the basement level.

Description: Eastern State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services system, was founded in 1773 with a well-intentioned emphasis on community-focused mental health care. The Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, is situated on 500 acres and consists of 16 buildings. The 417-bed facility provides treatment to approximately 400 patients with about 1000 staff.

Description: Archived website of the Southsdie Virginia Training Center (SVTC). SVTC's primary mission was to provide quality, client-centered health and habilitation services for eligible individuals with intellectual disabilities from Health Planning Region IV. In addition, the center provided administrative and environment of care services to other facilities on the Southside Campus, which included Central State Hospital, Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, and the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation. On 26 January 2012, Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell announced that a settlement agreement had been reached with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and he also announced that four of Virginia’s five training centers would be scheduled to close by 2020.
